Job Description:

DOWL is seeking experienced field project representatives to assist us in construction and inspection projects throughout Montana and upper northwest. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a wide range of duties related to the construction phase of a project. Including, but not limited to, construction inspection or observation; verification of compliance with contract documents and project and/or client representative.
  • Responsible for all on-site project coordination, management of resources, and success of the project.
  • Due to the field nature of this position, applicants must have the ability to travel away from their home location for extended periods of time to work on field assignments.
  • Prepare contractor pay requests and pay item record keeping.
  • Assist field staff with writing of requests for information, change orders, and other field/construction administrative duties as needed.
  • Materials testing of concrete, soils and asphalt in the lab and in the field will be required.
  • Other duties as assigned. ***A sign on bonus will be considered depending on experience/certifications*** Qualifications To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Strong background in construction.
  • Solid understanding of Owner/Consultant/Contractor communication.
  • Ability to coordinate with all other field staff for workload and resource balancing.
  • Familiarity and ability to lead field duties such as:
  • SWPPP inspections
  • Worksite traffic control and safety
  • Public progress meetings
  • Pay requests
  • Interim work authorizations
  • Change orders
  • Responses to requests for Information
  • Directives
  • Materials testing
  • Construction inspection
  • Strong verbal communicator.
  • Strong ability to multi-task.
  • Familiarity of field materials testing and procedures. Education and/or Experience Four years or more of similar work experience in the construction management, civil engineering field or equivalent combination of work experience and or related college-level course work. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Professional Engineering license is desirable. Certification in the following Western Alliance Quality Transportation Construction courses is preferred:
  • WAQTC - Aggregate
  • WAQTC - Concrete or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
  • WAQTC - In-place Embankment & Density
  • WAQTC - Asphalt
    Certification in Radiation Safety & Nuclear Gauge Operation is preferred. Basic First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, or ability to become certified, is desirable. ***A sign on bonus will be considered depending on experience/certifications*** Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Sufficient English skills to compose correspondence, develop project documents, proofread documents, and effectively communicate with supervisors, engineers, clients and other applicable staff.
    • Expertise, experience, and training of personnel with using testing equipment used in construction inspection and management services, as well as expertise and experience using SiteManager or comparable software.
    • Expertise and experience in implementing and complying with quality assurance/quality control procedures.
    • Ability to identify and define problems and communicate to supervisors.
    • Ability to work under deadlines.
    • Proficient to strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software, Windows Operating System, and printing output devices.
    • Ability to train less experienced staff for assistance in key day-to-day functions.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as arithmetic and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and angular relationships to practical situations.
    • Proficient knowledge of interpreting and understanding engineering drawings. Familiar and ability to work with key components such as:
      • Centerline and offsets
      • Plan and Profile views
      • Quantity summaries
      • Grades
      • Sheet references Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, to moderately-loud due to the proximity to the construction site and related equipment. The wage range for this position is $21 to $30 an hour based on experience.
