Job Description:

The MontanaPBS Production Services Live Producer manages, produces, and directs high quality, live and post-produced content. This includes all sports events, as contracted, for in-venue display, streaming through various broadcasters, as well as other live and post-produced events and productions. The position leads planning and negotiating production contracts and collaborating with a variety of public and private entities and is expected to develop budgets, track costs, and meet yearly revenue goals within the Production Services department. The position will manage student and professional crews, a variety of production equipment, and will coordinate closely with MSU athletics and marketing departments, public and government entities, and the private sector. The successful candidate will also develop program ideas, write scripts, direct studio & remote shoots, edit and manage post-production on a variety of independent and assigned projects. The Production Services Live Producer provides the creative and editorial leadership that upholds MontanaPBS and MSU's distinguished reputation for live sports, events, and post-produced content within the region. MontanaPBS provides a professional, friendly work environment, a premiere health plan, generous sick and annual leave, paid holidays, matching retirement contributions and support for professional development.A demo reel will be required of all finalists, PL track for live shows preferred.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDirect and produce high quality, impactful live coverage for various events, including sports, lectures, presentations, and performances for in-venue, streaming, and broadcast audiences, while continually innovating and improving productions.Solicit projects, produce and direct high quality, impactful post-produced content on a contract basis for a variety of public and private clients, delivering high quality, meaningful, and profitable content.Track production costs on projects, establishing and working within designated budgets as well as achieving annual departmental revenue goals, and continually develop new client relationships and productions.Supervise, maintain and provide recommendations for upgrades to a variety of equipment, including cameras, streaming gear, replay systems, post-production edit suites, in addition to effective and organized long term archiving schemes and equipment.Collaborate with a diverse group of teams and clients including digital marketing, MSU Athletics, MSU Marketing, and third-party streaming services and marketing agencies, and other production staff to ensure high quality, meaningful, and profitable content.Hire, schedule, and supervise a group of up to 20 student crew members of varying experience levels.Work collaboratively within MontanaPBS Production Services on all types of productions assigned by the Director of Production. This may include working to direct/edit/produce content specifically for broadcast on MontanaPBS. (e.g., news-public affairs, history-documentary, performing arts and drama programs).Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in film & television, sports television, or closely related field. Progressively responsible professional experience, with or without post-secondary education, may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree.Progressively responsible professional television production experience with multi-camera live and post-produced content.Demonstrated professional experience applying live and post-produced broadcast television theory and practice including effective directing, writing, shooting, editing, lighting and audio recording and mixing, both field based and studio-based environments.Demonstrated professional experience with and knowledge about specific live production equipment including high-end graphics systems, routers, videoboard show control, replay systems, switchers, cameras, audio consoles, and all-in-one production systems.Demonstrated effective communications skills and ability to manage multiple, complex productions simultaneously.Demonstrated experience with effective budgeting, contract negotiations, and meeting annual revenue goals.Proficiency and demonstrated understanding of media asset management, professional broadcast workflows and distribution, live and post-production software and hardware.Ability to thrive in high-energy, collaborative, and deadline-driven setting.MontanaPBS is an equal opportunity employer, veterans/disabled.Full job description and application available on Montana State University's Employment Website.
