General Statement

This position will include specimen collection and processing at the MSU COVID testing site(s). In addition, this position may include data entry regarding specimens. This is a temporary position.

Duties and Responsibilities

+ Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - you will be trained in this if necessary.

+ Confirming the identification of each patient.

+ Using nasal, naso-pharyngeal, oral swabs; or saliva samples; to directly collect (or instruct the patient on self-collection) of a sample for COVID testing

+ Follow department policies and procedures regarding medical records.

+ Maintain confidentiality of medical information. and adherence to HIPAA guidelines.

+ Ensure compliance with University policies and state laws regarding medical information and communication.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

+ High school graduation or G.E.D.

+ One year of full time (or part-time equivalent) entry to mid-level administrative support and/or clerical experience. or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

+ Demonstrated experience with use of PPE,

+ Knowledge of basic clinical laboratory specimen collection and excellent attention to detail.

+ Knowledge of medical ethics regarding confidentiality and legal protocols.

+ Experience working in a medical office.

+ Experience working with electronic medical records.

+ The ability to develop a working knowledge of the testing site's daily needs to maintain adequate patient flow.

+ The ability to consistently exercise initiative and good judgment.

+ The ability to effectively operate work-related equipment.

+ The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public both in person and over the phone.

+ The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public in a team-oriented environment.

+ The ability to maintain and communicate confidential and sensitive information tactfully and professionally.

+ The ability to perform detailed work with a high a level of accuracy.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Hours 8am -5pm Monday through Friday with possibility of overlapping shifts or shared between groups of specimen collectors.

This position is contingent upon continuation of funding after Dec 31, 2020.
