Job Title: Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Therapist Profession:
Advanced Practice Specialty: Psych/Mental Health Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Weekends: Saturday and Sunday Hours per Shift: 8:00 AM -
4:30 PM, 16 hours Experience: Minimum of one year in the healthcare
field preferred License: Fully licensed therapist, eligible for
licensure in the state Certifications: American Heart Association
BLS Must-Have: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology,
Counseling, or related field Description: The Inpatient Psychiatric
Unit Therapist works within a multidisciplinary team. This position
provides services to patients in an acute adult inpatient
behavioral health setting. The Therapist joins with other members
of the team to stabilize patients in a mental health crisis.
Comprehensive clinical social work services are provided, including
therapy (individual, group, and family). Discharge planning, case
management, care coordination, psychoeducation, and crisis
intervention are integral to this role. The position seeks to
address the psychosocial needs of the patients and their families.
This enables a safe return to the community upon discharge from the
inpatient unit. Essential job functions include supporting the
mental and physical health care of patients. Coordination of care
closely with the interdisciplinary care team is required.
Screening, assessments, and brief intervention for patients and
families are performed in a timely manner. The Therapist provides
individual, family, and group therapy as well as crisis
intervention when needed. Documentation and maintenance of
appropriate clinical documentation are essential. Contribution to
the interdisciplinary treatment plan for each patient is required.
Integration of the social work plan into the overall care plan is
necessary. Systematic tracking of treatment response and monitoring
patients for changes in clinical symptoms is important. Discharge
and transitional planning activities are coordinated in
collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Coordination with
referral agencies is indicated to ensure services are available
before discharge. Facilitation of referrals to evidence-based
therapeutic treatments and social services is conducted as
clinically indicated. The position may involve other duties as
assigned to meet departmental and organizational needs.
Demonstrating sound judgment, patience, and maintaining a
professional demeanor is critical. The ability to exercise tact,
discretion, and sensitivity while maintaining confidentiality is
necessary. Performing essential job functions in a busy and
stressful environment is expected. Learning current and new
computer applications and office equipment utilized is required.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are
essential. Analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing work while
meeting multiple deadlines is crucial. The role may necessitate
working beyond a standard workweek, including weekends. Physical
demands include lifting, sitting, standing, walking, climbing,
bending, and fine motor skills. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens,
infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations may
occur.
