Job Description:

  • Responsible for providing leadership, support, direction and focus for Bozeman Health. Supports Patient Financial Services supervisors in maintaining team discipline for all elements of established standard processes (work management, tools, team briefings, metrics tracking and prompt resolution of issues, problems and opportunities). Directs and coordinates all functions of the Patient Financial Service, Case Management, HIM, and Patient Access Departments as they relate to patient admission/registration, patient estimates, clinic scheduling, billing, coding, medical necessity, length of stay, care coordination, utilization review, revenue integrity, and collection activities for Bozeman Health and all related entities. Provides supervision for the switchboard and communications area of the hospital.
  • Required:
    • Masters Degree
    • Preferred:
      • Masters of Healthcare Administration or Business Administration
      • Required:
        • Five years of supervisory experience and past experience in healthcare administration, revenue cycle or management of accounts receivable.
        • Preferred:
          • Prior Patient Financial Services management experience
          • EXPERIENCE
          • Required:
            • Prior Epic experience with Epic
            • Preferred:
            • KNOWLEDGE OF:
              • Personal Computers, hardware and basic software programs including e-mail, word processing, and excel spreadsheets.
              • Keeps abreast of current and new Medicare, Medicaid, and other agency regulations related to Hospital and Clinic billing.
              • Understands key performance metrics for Revenue Cycle.
              • Understands process improvement.
              • Understands managed care contracting.
              • Understands professional payer contracting.
              • SKILLS IN:
                • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
                • Staff Supervision, Evaluation and Development.
                • Budgeting Process.
                • ABILITY TO:
                  • Refer to policy manual for specific instructions/guidelines. Follow established policies and Procedures.
                  • Adhere to the standards of the job description and overall philosophy of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
                  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments.
                  • Communicate effectively with administration, directors and managers of other departments as it relates to Denial Management, Chargemaster and billing issues.
                  • COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:
                    • Work independently with a minimum of Supervision.
                    • Responsible for decisions affecting staffing and personnel within the department.
                    • Oversees Chargemaster and understands financial impact to the organization. Meets with the department to drive improvement and updates finance as needed.
                    • Leads process improvement to drive desired financial outcomes.
                    • Implements key performance metrics for areas at risk.
                    • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
                    • 30% Time Spent -
                    • Ensures compliant, accurate and efficient billing processes for billing staff in accordance with annually agreed upon goals with Chief Financial Officer.
                    • 20% Time Spent -
                    • Provides direction/supervision of third party billing/reimbursement in accordance with annually agreed upon goals with Chief Financial Officer.
                    • 15% Time Spent -
                    • Provides direction/supervision to patient access personnel in accordance with annually agreed upon goals with Chief Financial Officer
                    • 10% Time Spent -
                    • Maintains Charge Description Master for the System to ensure proper coding and pricing in accordance with annually agreed upon goals with Chief Financial Officer.
                    • 10% Time Spent -
                    • Keep abreast of changes in the healthcare billing arena from new technology to changes in government regulations in accordance with annually agreed upon goals with Chief Financial Officer.
                    • 10% Time Spent -
                    • Work with multi-departmental team to ensure the admission/registration process is accurate and timely in accordance with annually agreed upon goals with Chief Financial Officer.
                    • 5% Time Spent -
                    • Other duties as assigned.
