About Montana Conservation Corps Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) is a non-profit, AmeriCorps-affiliated organization which operates from offices in Bozeman, Helena, Kalispell and Missoula, Montana. Our mission is to inspire young people through hands-on conservation service to be leaders, stewards of the land, and engaged citizens who improve their communities. Our work takes place across Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota and South Dakota. MCC strives to give its participants the experience of a lifetime through challenging conservation work and the rigors of life outdoors, coupled with education developed specifically to create engaged citizens and lifelong environmental stewards. By weaving together leadership development and skills training with hands-on service in the outdoors, MCC helps young people develop vital competencies that build a foundation for achieving success, an affinity and aptitude for being in the outdoors, and an energetic and motivated workforce. In turn, MCC participants perform substantial work that provides lasting benefit for public lands. Position Overview: The Regional Youth Program Manager (YPM) staff position is based out of a Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) regional office and is responsible for the management and development of regional programs serving primarily high school and middle school youth. The YPM will actively engage local school leadership, community organizations and other youth serving entities in order to develop program partnerships and opportunities that align with MCC's mission. Primary duties include hiring, training and supervision of AmeriCorps members to serve as youth program leaders, as well as the supervision of regional Youth Program Coordinators. Additional duties include youth participant recruitment and enrollment, coordination of community service events, field logistics management and all aspects of youth program implementation. Activities will include summer and school year programming. The Youth Program Manager works collaboratively within a regional team, and must develop and maintain a good working relationship with Youth Crew Leaders and Members, parents/guardians, project partners, community partners, and other regional and statewide staff. All Montana Conservation Corps positions may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities. Responsibilities Program Management:

  • Responsible for the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of MCC Youth Program Leaders
  • Actively engage with regional schools and youth-serving organizations in program and partnership development for out-of-school time programming
  • Primary risk manager for regional youth programs
  • Coordinates orientations, graduations and parent/guardian communication and participation
  • Work collaboratively with other regional Youth Program Managers and State Office program staff in the development and implementation of the Youth Program curriculum and program evaluation activities
  • Ensure high quality of MCC programming; thorough knowledge of MCC program objectives as well as education and training curriculum
  • Demonstrate an ability to work across differences to promote inclusion of all staff, participants and partners
  • Instill a culture of inclusion, caring and professionalism, cultivate safety awareness within crews; ensure compliance with MCC policies and safety standards within all crews
  • Provide leadership and coordinate appropriate levels of counseling support to crews and individual participants Recruitment and Outreach:
    • Plan, coordinate, and implement local youth outreach and recruitment efforts
    • Coordinate with Marketing and Recruitment teams in the state office for materials, resources, and recruitment strategies
    • Coordinate with Member Management team on youth program admissions and all related onboarding tasks
    • Facilitate participation of local youth alumni in recruitment and outreach activities
    • Plan, coordinate, and implement local community service day events in coordination with regional staff
    • Serve as representative of MCC to community groups, partnering agencies and parents/guardians
    • Work with Regional Director, the Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion and regional staff to ensure youth program materials represent the diverse perspectives of the youth we serve and the AmeriCorps members we train Administrative Support:
      • Ensure timely and thorough completion of organizational and AmeriCorps paperwork
      • Responsible for administering regional youth program admissions process
      • Implement systems for effective, professional communication with parents/guardians, project partners and community members
      • Manage effectively all activities related to volunteer community service days and the necessary forms
      • Provide written documentation of field support and program activities
      • Participate in emergency on-call schedule
      • Participate in organizational committees as needed, and assist in the continual improvement of youth program systems related to administration Supervision Exercised:
        • Provide direct training and supervision to regional Youth Program Coordinators and Youth Program Leaders, including ongoing professional development, feedback and periodic written evaluation of performance
        • Implement fair and appropriate discipline and behavior management for Leaders/Members as needed to maintain high functioning crews and strong morale throughout the region Qualifications
          • Minimum Required Education And Experience
            • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
            • Experience teaching middle school or high school youth in a public/private school, or outdoor program
            • Knowledge of youth program risk management practices
            • Knowledge of adolescent development and emerging adult developmental characteristics
            • Strong interpersonal and administrative skills, ability to effectively communicate through written word and orally
            • Ability to travel and be on overnight trips for up to a week at a time, often camping in a tent
            • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, cloud-based collaborative systems, as well as G Suite for businesses
            • Minimum age of 21
            • A valid driver's license, ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and ability to be insurable per MCC parameters
            • Current Wilderness Advanced First-Aid/CPR certification required, advanced levels of First-Aid preferred
            • Ability to pass a Criminal History Check.
