Job Description:

Part-Time GLOBAL CONSERVATION Job Description Organization Background:--
The Wildlife Conservation Society ("WCS") is a New York not-for-profit corporation founded by statute in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society. WCS saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through research, science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature. That mission is achieved through our global conservation programs (WCS currently oversees a portfolio of more than 500 conservation projects in 65 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and North America, and the oceans between them) and through the management of the world's largest system of urban wildlife parks-the Bronx Zoo; the New York Aquarium; and the Central Park, Queens, and Prospect Park Zoos (the City Zoos)-- Program Overview:--
The Rocky Mountain Program's Strategic Vision is centered in an overarching goal of protecting nature's strongholds to restore and reconnect species, landscapes, and waterways at scales that are ecologically meaningful and resilient in the face of a changing climate. Critical to the realization of this vision are our science-based efforts to combat and develop solutions to address the region's greatest ecological threats. This work is centered in:--
--- Providing scientific leadership, braiding knowledge systems & conducting cutting-edge research--
--- Rewilding ecological & cultural keystone species and ecosystems--
--- Leading catalytic & inclusive collaborations that bring together diverse interests--
--- Fighting the forces of fragmentation & rewilding-- Job Summary:--
Lead the design, development and implementation of a Working Lands Initiative (WLI) in WCS's Northern Rockies Landscape. The goal of the Initiative is to protect the sustainability of ranch and other working lands as critical components for sustaining connection, and restoring species and wild, high integrity ecosystems. The Program Manager will be responsible for implementing the three pillars of the WLI, which are science, incentives, and storytelling to:--
-- Systematically synthesize the best available research to guide the conservation of ecosystem services and wildlife of working lands and ensure their economic sustainability.--
-- Identify, and if necessary, inform the development of additional incentives that support and/or improve ecosystem services and wildlife stewardship.--
-- Design a creative communications and storytelling strategy that elevates the voices of ranchers and working lands stewards and grows a constituency that recognizes the conservation value of working lands and the critical role they play in achieving large landscape conservation.-- Major Responsibilities:--
-- Work closely with Northern Rockies Landscape Lead in the Northern Rockies to co-create and manage a concrete strategy for the design and implementation of a Working Lands Initiative that delivers on a clear set of targets and outcomes.--
-- Develop a targeted outreach and organizing strategy that results in a connected and activated ranching community network across the Northern Rockies.--
-- Conduct expert interviews with landowners, other key stakeholders, and decision-makers in the Northern Rockies to develop an active, effective, and diverse working lands conservation constituency.--
-- Identify existing public policies and funding mechanisms (as well as gaps) related to keeping working lands intact through a comprehensive review of working lands economics, policy, and stewardship or conservation incentives; determine new tools or pathways to address identified deficiencies.--
-- Work closely with the RMP communications team to design a targeted communications/storytelling strategy.

#LI-MT1 Qualification Requirements Minimum Requirements:--
-- Experience organizing or movement building in rural settings and strong experience in communications, social media, and storytelling is required.--
-- A Bachelor's Degree or minimum of 3 year's demonstrable experience--in wildlife or conservation biology, or related field is preferred.--
-- Must have a working knowledge of land and natural resource issues in the West and understanding of the challenges and threats to working lands, particularly as it relates to economic viability, wildlife conservation, and policies related to these areas. A ranching or agricultural background or proven success working with ranching or other working lands stakeholders is highly desirable.--
-- Ability to think "outside the box" to develop innovative strategies that scale to the challenge they are intended to meet.--
-- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required, along with a proven ability to engage successfully with diverse stakeholders.--
-- Self-starter with ability to set priorities, organize time efficiently and work independently without close supervision on several tasks at once.--
-- Willingness to travel (limited) and work flexible hours if needed.--
-- Willingness and ability to collaborate with and provide programmatic support for the greater WCS Rockies Team.
-- WCS is an equal opportunity employer and the organization complies with all employment and labor laws and regulations that prohibit discrimination in hiring and ensures that candidates from all backgrounds are fairly and consistently considered during the recruitment process. We are dedicated to hiring and supporting a diverse workforce. We are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment and look for future team members who share that same value-- The organization provides equal employment opportunities for all qualified candidates. The organization does not discriminate for employment based on age, color, disability, gender identify, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by laws and regulations
