MSU Billings is unique in that it is one of a select few higher education institutions that also boasts an embedded two-year community college. The University opened in 1927 and was initially called Eastern Montana State Normal School at Billings and was established to prepare teachers for elementary schools in eastern Montana. MSU Billings has grown, with the city of Billings and Yellowstone County, into the major urban comprehensive higher education center of south central and eastern Montana. The University campus consists of four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education and the College of Allied Health Professions. Seven miles west of the University campus sits City College at MSU Billings, which serves the comprehensive two-year mission of the university. Duties and Responsibilities The Associate Director of SSS / TRIO at City College will run the day to day activities of the City College program. They will manage two full-time staff, co-manage a full-time staff member, and collaborate with a myriad of departments on both the CC and MSUB campuses. Major Responsibilities of the Position: Manage the day-to-day activities of the SSS / TRIO City College Program to serve a minimum of 140 low-income, first generation, and/or disabled students. Includes the supervision of two full-time staff. May include participating on committees that work directly with SSS / TRIO and/or affect SSS / TRIO students at City College. Collaboration with most departments on the City College campus and with the MSUB SSS / TRIO program (especially MSUB SSS / TRIO Associate Director). This position is supervised by the Director of Academic Achievement, Advising and SSS / TRIO . Work closely with the MSUB SSS / TRIO director and the Director of Academic Achievement, Advising and SSS / TRIO to ensure the CC program meets all expectations of the grant. Makes decisions that directly impacts the program and ultimately the grant at City College. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills --- Master's degree in Education, Administration, Counseling, or Related Field.
--- Experience in designing, managing or implementing SSS / TRIO or similar projects; in leadership, supervision, and evaluation of personnel; exercising initiative, good judgment, and independent decision making; organizing and prioritizing simultaneous work assignments to meet deadlines; and handling sensitive and confidential situations and information.
--- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, especially with under-represented populations; compiling complete and accurate documentation of SSS program services, participant eligibility, and data required for reports to the institution as well as the U.S. Department of Education; and to maintain a pleasant, encouraging and accommodating approach when working with participants.
--- Strong interpersonal skills with knowledge of emotional intelligence; experience as support group facilitator and Knowledge of Student Learning Theory and demonstrated cultural competence.
--- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience in organizing and prioritizing simultaneous work assignments to meet deadlines.
--- Financial literacy knowledge, including FAFSA .
--- Management experience, including budget administration, supervision and evaluation of personnel, proposal writing, and competency in technology required.
--- Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with fellow staff and faculty members and community organizations.
--- Must understand the social needs of SSS / TRIO eligible students at City College.
--- Advising and/or mentoring a caseload of students.
--- Energetic, flexible, and willing to work some evenings/weekends.
--- Teaching or counseling experience required.
