There's simply no better place to live, work, and play. Job Duties: This position is a Senior District Traffic Engineer (PE). The position is responsible for developing traffic-engineering designs; managing traffic engineering projects; and conducting advanced traffic and traffic control device engineering studies to resolve safety problems or to enhance highway safety; and developing traffic engineering designs. The position provides advanced training, guidance, and technical assistance to engineers, district and field project personnel, consultants, and local governments on specialized work zone traffic control design applications and practices, and exercises lead worker supervision over other engineers in the District. The position reports to the District Preconstruction Engineer. This position requires travel within the Butte District (Southwest Montana). This travel sometimes includes overnight or longer periods away from home. Occasionally, this position requires long periods of time observing traffic patterns and behaviors without a break (4-hours). Qualifications : Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. The position requires four years progressively responsible experience with an emphasis on project design and traffic operational analysis. Certifications, licensure, or other credentials include: PE required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors): The position requires an advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of traffic and electrical/electronic engineering including trigonometry, geometry, and calculus; physics; traffic signal systems; engineering mechanics; analytical and problem solving methods; and engineering plan organization. The position also requires knowledge of project management; construction; contract administration; public relations; the functions and authorities of local and tribal governments; contractor and consultant relations; the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; state and federal traffic engineering regulations; accident analysis techniques; the functions of traffic control equipment; public relations methods and techniques; and written and verbal communications including presentation methods and technical writing. The position requires knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting Design (CADD) operations; roadway plans and specifications; utility and right-of-way plans; and highway layout. Training and technical assistance duties require knowledge of classroom and on-the-job training methods and techniques; construction and maintenance processes; state and federal standards; technical writing principles, and computer-assisted design software. Supervisory duties require knowledge of state and MDT personnel policies and procedures, supervisory practices, and training methods. The position requires skill in the preparation of engineering designs for electrical and traffic engineering projects to ensure a constructable set of plans; preparing plans on CADD and preparing all documentation associated with the project; the operation of traffic control study and control devices; the use of computers and applicable software including CADD; analyzing and evaluating engineering designs; specialized analytical methods and techniques; and analyzing and interpreting statistical information.
