A Full Stack Developer at Special is a product feature stakeholder. You will proactively participate in scoping activities, advise on engineering pace, continuously ensure code maintainability, and lead successful releases. This role actively monitors app metrics to advise on improvement of performance in production, as well as how local and development environments can better prepare features for the wild.
You will be responsible for implementing features on various parts of the stack including database, API and user interface development. This role is responsible for maintaining appropriate test suites, and will be expected to interact with and understand how the product works within our cloud architecture. The full stack developer role is also responsible for identifying and implementing product analytics to accurately measure feature success.
This role will collaborate with members of the Special team to aid in aligning engineering activities with product marketing and sales goals.
As a developer at Special you will be an active participant in helping to shape our software development culture. A few agile principles that our team most actively aims to achieve and improve include (but are not limited to):

• Increase the ease and frequency of production releases
• Decrease dependencies between software components
• Maintain concise and intentful feature branches
• Identify effective tooling to solve new engineering challenges
  Core Responsibilities
  • Lead production releases
  • Implement API support for new feature functionality
  • Build frontend features using internally developed API features
  • Implement test suites when / where necessary to ensure long-term stability
  • Lead pre-release quality assurance and validation efforts for features owned in development
  • Be a stakeholder and actively advise to maintain performant, stable and usable software
  • Provide developer-centric feedback on product requirements and designs
  • Collaborate with marketing team to implement analytics and pro-actively measure feature effectiveness
  • Be ready and able to learn and implement new technologies on-the-fly
  • Maintain strong cohesion between short term objectives and long term goals
    Requirements
    • 5+ years experience with Javascript frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, etc.
    • 3+ years experience in a lead frontend software developer
    • 3+ years experience with Javascript API frameworks such as Sails, Express, Adonis, etc.
    • 3+ years experience working with relational databases and writing basic queries
    • Experience implementing commonly used Javascript test frameworks with both frontend and backend codebases
    • Experience working with software teams that deploy to a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
    • Experience leading releases in production environments
    • Experience leading early stage software development in small teams
    • Passion for independent media and the creator economy
    • Demonstrated experience in hands on execution of all Core Responsibilities
      Preferred ExperienceSpecial continues to identify and implement integrations to address technical and business challenges. We are especially interested in candidates demonstrating experience with:
      • Commonly used payment processors such as Paypal, Square, Stripe, etc.
      • Video hosting and distribution tools such as Brightcove, Zype, etc.
      • Integrations with CRMs such as Hubspot, Salesforce, etc.
        Video and billing are core components of our platform. We are especially interested in candidates demonstrating experience with:
        • Video transcoding and content distribution
        • Recommendation engines
        • Subscription and transactional billing systems
        • Payment processing systems requiring level 3+ PCI, SOC 1, SOC2 compliance audits
