For questions contact recruitment@montana.eduContract TypeClassified SalaryIf other, please specifyRecruitment TypeOpenPosition DetailsGeneral StatementThe analyst will be responsible for accounting processes, expense/revenue reconciliations and financial report generation for construction and maintenance projects. In addition, the Accounting Analyst will work closely with the Budget Manager and department staff to perform financial analyses, to assist with managing fiscal and personnel resources, purchasing, contracted services and property management. The Accounting Analyst will also contribute to ongoing process improvement projects.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level fiscal management of diverse and significant funds across multiple departments.
  • Monitor multiple indexes of significant financial impact with varied funding sources, reconcile expenditures, identify and correct errors and develop methods to avoid recurring errors.
  • Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions for diverse set of clients. Includes complex expense account and funding source coding, interpretation of and compliance with multiple University, State and Federal policies relevant to Purchasing, Maintenance & Construction activities, policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile internal financial activity reports with university accounting system. Perform ad hoc research and analyses in response to manager and/or client department requests.
  • Provide monthly budget analysis that accurately represent construction and maintenance project activity.
  • Work with University Budget Services to determine project eligibility for capitalization. Initiate invoices to external and internal customers to collect revenue on behalf of clients.
  • Act as a consultant for clients to independently interpret and apply complex business policies and procedures
  • Assist in University Services Personnel Services Budgeting, database management, time-keeping, leave balance, pay reconciliation and benefit calculations. Reconcile internal payroll activity reports with university payroll system and resolve pay issues associated with multiple trade agreement, pay categories, work shifts, timecards, and billing activity.
  • Initiate and implement ongoing process improvements and policy changes in areas of responsibility. Participate in relevant departmental & University process improvement initiatives.
  • Create detailed documentation of processes and policies; provide training to clients as needed. May include creation and maintenance of a policy and procedures manual.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place and followed. Setup and maintain paper and electronic filing systems for all department records and implement records retention policies. Perform work in accordance with and ensure audit compliance with federal, state, university system and granting agency laws, rules, guidelines, procedures and agreements.Required Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Progressively responsible accounting or bookkeeping experience with budgeting, analysis, reconciliation, reporting and processing accounts payable/receivable transactions. Bachelors degree in accounting or relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
    • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel, accounting software, and relational databases to input, analyze and summarize financial data.
    • Demonstrated experience providing consistent and positive customer support to a diverse customer base.Preferred Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
